Mentions from other sites

Opini listens for your product on sites like Hacker News and GitHub, and shows what people say on the Insights page: how often you're mentioned, how people feel, and what they talk about.

Set up a source

  1. In the dashboard, open Project settings → Sources.
  2. Choose Set up next to a source and add the words to listen for. For GitHub, also add your repositories.
  3. Choose Show what it finds. You see recent posts that match, so you can add words to skip before going live.
  4. Turn it on. The first check runs within a minute, and new mentions show up on Insights.

Choosing words

Words match whole words, so Opini doesn't match "opinion". Up to five words or phrases per source.

  • Use your product's name. If it's a common word, add your domain too.
  • Add words to skip for the other meanings of your name: anything that mentions them is left out. Up to ten.
  • AI also drops posts that use your name for something else, so you only see the ones about your product.

Sources

Hacker NewsStories and comments that mention your words. Checked every hour.
GitHubEvery new issue in your own public repositories, plus issues anywhere on GitHub that mention your words (integrations, forks, plugins).

Reading Insights

  • Mentions per day, by source, for the last 7, 30 or 90 days.
  • Positive and negative: the share of mentions in each.
  • Topics: what comes up most, coloured by how people feel about it.
  • Mentions: each with a one-line summary, its topics, and a link to the original. Filter by source or by how people feel.

Your AI tool can read them too: the MCP server has list_mentions and mention_trends.

Plans

  • Free: Opini counts up to 50 mentions a month and shows where they came from. Sources are checked once a day.
  • Agents: every mention, with how people feel and what they talk about. 500 a month are included, then $0.50 per 100. Sources are checked every hour.

Privacy

  • Opini only reads public posts, and keeps the author's public username, nothing more.
  • The text of a mention is deleted after 90 days. The counts and topics stay, so your trends do too.
  • Turning a source off deletes the mentions it found.
